What does progress look like? What else awaits us beyond the next hill? And who will get to lead us into the future?
These are just some of the we attempt to bring answers to in the 2025 edition of Argos’ annual Global Ambitions publication.
We know, we’ve made it a habit to ask the easy ones…
As every year, we’re bringing together some of the brightest minds in the language services industry to tackle them.
We’re a few weeks away from launch, but read some of what the collected voices have to share:
"Localization has been perceived as a less-known, somewhat opaque, yet necessary function, and it wasn't entirely bad. This obscurity was our protective shield. AI has changed that."

"[...] our team is pioneering a new era of localization — because as audio becomes the next frontier of global connection, we believe that everyone, everywhere, deserves to experience content that feels native, personal, and deeply human — no matter the language."

"I want to share a story of resilience, a story of progress. One that comes from within. So, while it may be tempting to wait for business to arrive, we cannot afford to sit idly by, twiddling our thumbs."

"[...] companies can increasingly manage straightforward translation tasks without specialized localization staff (or so they think), and they will do it with you or without you."

“Real change requires mapping the whole environment: the business transaction layers, the data flows, the metrics, the regulatory expectations, and the unspoken norms that shape how things actually get done.”

“[...] progress isn’t always loud. It isn’t always packaged as disruption. Sometimes, progress is Thor: The Dark World. A fine film that doesn’t stand out as a great Marvel flick but serves a purpose to move things along.”

“I have to wonder. If the last stage of CSA’s globalization maturity model is “Transparent” — where localization is no longer a function or department, just the way things are — aren’t we, the people who built the system, setting ourselves up for obsolescence?”

“When users encounter an app or platform that doesn't speak their language, they don't see it as a company that hasn't invested in translation yet, but rather, they see it as a company that doesn't care about them.”

“[...] in a moment when the vendor side is facing obliteration, and the buyer side is unhappy with their lot, why wouldn’t we all take the opportunity to rethink the whole endeavor?”

You may have thought we have acquired a baseline understanding of GenAI and what it can and cannot do.
Reality check — we are far from it. There are entire regions that have not been part of the GenAI craze (not for a lack of wanting to be) and newcomers coming into the industry who need guidance catching up.
We shine the spotlight on both of these groups, through reflections on the language services industry in Africa, and also a series of articles wondering about the new generation of professionals we’ll be passing the torch to.
But there’s more.
